It may sound Type A of me, but I try to have outfit formulas for each life event I attend. It saves on stress, takes into account the activity and the conditions, and allows me to have the best time while still looking great. The formula for a stunning wedding outfit includes a well-tailored dress, glitzy yet practical heels, and a small clutch. I avoid too short, too tight, and too embellished garments. Too many times being stuck in tights that kept rolling down or dresses that wouldn't let me breathe taught me the value of planning ahead.
The last wedding I attended I wore a beautiful a-line chiffon dress with a cumberbund pleated empire waist from ModCloth.

I have since outgrown the dress (I cry every time I think about it) and moved on to greener and more beautiful pastures with a ponte Dorothy Perkins Little Black Dress.
It is long enough to maintain my modesty, but short enough to be a special occasion dress. The gold bar and keyhole along the neckline give the dress a dash of glamour.

I always have such a hard time accessorizing my LBD. It has a cowl neck, which I love, but I can't seem to figure out anything else to go with it other than a string of pearls.

I had the same problem with a black, cowl neck sweater dress from a few years ago! I usually just added a belt, several bracelets, and some larger earrings.
DeleteAnd thanks for the lovely compliment :) I am still trying to find that ideal set of poses, lighting, and background to suit my taste, so none of my pictures are ever the same. Sometimes I wish I had my own free photographer to follow me around!
I own the Windy City ModCloth dress so I can understand how sad you must have been. But the LBD look you have is perfect. You can style it several different ways with belts and accessories and give it a new feel every time. So good!
ReplyDeleteI'm still holding on to the Windy City dress in hopes that I can get it taken out just a little and make it work. It's generally my policy to get rid of any clothes that no longer fit me, that way I don't start feeling sorry for myself, but it is such a beautiful dress..I can't help myself. And you're right about the LBD. I wore the dress yesterday for a meeting with a bright red cropped jacket and black flats, then removed the jacket for a nice dinner date :) So versatile.
