Glamorous Glamorous

If you haven't noticed yet, I have been travelling a lot recently. I have had a variety of commitments that have taken me away from home, which means I have done a ton of driving and done an equally large amount of packing and unpacking. This weekend my high school band director and his wife, the assistant director were retiring from their 30 year careers and toasting their former success and christening this new stage in life with a reception. I don't consider myself a band nerd by any means, however, my time in band was eminent to the person I am today. I learned many things, including but not limited to, discipline, patience, perseverance, the merits of hard work, loyalty, self-worth, and professionalism. Their devotion and service has touched the lives of hundreds of children who have each gone out into the world changed people through their experiences with these two teachers. Needless to say, I would have been remiss to skip the reception.

Now, onto the outfit. I bought this dress at a Dillard's 90% off sale. It was $5.99. If that doesn't blow your mind then you're probably doing it wrong. It is a dusty gray shell with a delicate lace overlay and sheer sleeves which cannot be described as anything other than "billowy". It is the kind of dress that makes you feel mysterious and glamorous.

An elegant statement dress like this is most effectively paired with simple accessories. And, well, I am a big fan of simple, understated jewelry. Summer in Georgia is gross. It is hot. It is humid. And it is difficult to dress for when you are uncomfortable in shorts and tank tops. A sundress would have been just as appropriate, but hey, why pass up the opportunity to wear something as beautiful as this dress!

When wearing a full-coverage dress like this, no matter how light and breathable it is, it is necessary to balance out the coverage on top with a little more skin on bottom, i.e. skimpier footwear. It doesn't hurt that the reception was during the day and called for a more casual attire.

If you were wondering about the furry photo bomb, that is my cat Marmalade. Also, the black blob in the picture below is B-dog. He is a twenty-seven pound sack of potatoes. Marmalade is not his biggest fan.

What would you wear for an afternoon reception?
